What is a dare?

A dare is anything funny, crazy or amazing that you want yourself or others to do that is then recorded on video and uploaded to darebusters.com to entertain the community. Or to freak people out ;-)

A dare always consists of two parts: the dare suggestion and one or multiple bust videos (see: What is “busting” a dare).

Just click on the Watch-tab and you can see some of the previous dares on darebusters.com.

What is a darebuster?

A darebuster is anybody who has successfully busted a dare on darebusters.com.

In other words: darebusters are some really cool people offering high quality freak entertainment for a fair pay, so be good to them!

What is a dare suggestion?

A dare suggestion is a short video or text that suggests and explains a new dare.

By the way text is boring! And our programmers have implemented a nice and easy direct-in-browser-recording video function for you. So don’t be lame, wipe the dust off your webcam and use it!

You can choose between three types of dare suggestions: a dare for yourself that only you can bust, a dare for a selected crowd of people including or excluding yourself and finally a dare for everybody in the darebusters community.

Just click on the Dare-tab and see for yourself! ;-)

What is “busting” a dare?

Busting a dare is our term for uploading a video that shows how you complete or try to complete a dare suggestion.

Oh and, if it’s only an attempt to bust it, please make sure it’s an entertaining attempt. Nobody want’s to see a 30 min video of you explaining why you couldn’t do it ;-)

Why am I allowed to bust some dares but not others?

When a user suggests a new dare he decides who is allowed to bust it. You’re only allowed to bust a dare if the user dared everybody, or if you were explicitly selected by him.

What are DareDollars?

DareDollars (ÐÐ) are the virtual currency of darebusters.com.

You can buy DareDollars to sponsor dare suggestions and by busting dares you can earn DareDollars. Just check out our payment page to learn more about the various ways to get DareDollars. You will see that there is even a possibility to get them for free ;-)

You can always get your DareDollars paid out at a rate of 1 Euro per DareDollar (or roughly 1,3 US Dollars, depending on the current exchange rate) to your bank or PayPal account.

The exchange rate between EUR and USD changes a lot, but the current rate can be seen here.

What is sponsoring?

Each dare has a virtual account or piggy bank (“pot”) that can be filled with DareDollars. The DareDollars in the pot are paid out to those who bust the dare depending on the average rating their bust-video gets from the community (see: How is the payout determined?).

If you like a dare suggestion you can sponsor it to motivate others to bust the dare or even to become the main sponsor (see: What is the main sponsor of a dare and what’s the sponsor-branding?).

What is seed sponsoring?

A seed sponsoring is the first amount of DareDollars that you can chose to sponsor for your own suggestion when you post it.

Why should you sponsor your own suggestion? If not even you yourself are willing to spend a DareDollar to see your idea realized - it’s probably not worth posting it ;-)

What is the main sponsor of a dare and what’s the Sponsor-branding?

The main sponsor of a dare is the user who has sponsored the most to a dare pot.

Once the dare has been busted the main sponsor can brand the dare with any logo/picture, text or combination of the two he likes.

The main-sponsor-branding will become a permanent part of the dare an will be shown everytime a bust video is played.

A branding may for example be “this insanity was sponsored by user xyz …because he hates tricycles”. ;-)

What is a pot?

The pot is the virtual collection box or piggy bank that each dare has.

Anybody can sponsor dares to motivate others to bust them by putting DareDollars in their pots. The DareDollars in the pot are paid out to those who bust the dare depending on the average rating their bust-video gets from the community (see: How is the payout determined?).

Why are some pots limited to a certain amount while others have no limit?

Whether a pot is limited or not depends on the type of dare suggestion. (see: What is a dare suggestion?).

If a user posts a dare suggestion for himself, only he determines the amount of DareDollars that have to be in the pot so that he will bust the dare. This amount is then set as the limit of the pot. Once the pot is full the user is notified to bust the dare. So if you want to see a dare with a limited pot busted as soon as possible - just fill up the pot in one sponsoring! ;-)

If a user posts a dare suggestion for everybody of for a selected group of people the pot is unlimited and anybody can sponsor the dare with as many DareDollars as they like, so that once the amount becomes big enough, somebody will be willing to bust the dare.

What pot size should I chose for a dare suggestion for myself?

The size of the pot is equal to the amount of money that will be paid out to you if your bust-video gets a 100%-rating from the community (see: How is the payout determined?).

Don’t go crazy on the pot-size though - it’s not likely anybody will sponsor 1.000 dollars to see you riding a tricycle no handed - unless your tricycle is on fire maybe and you’re juggling elephant cubs.

How is the payout determined? - our Paid-per-Rating-Principle

For that we have our paid-per-rating-principle. After a dare has been busted the video will be rated by other registered users. Each user has one rating per video and can choose to rate the video with 0 (0%), 1(10%), 2 (20%), 3(30%), 4 (40%), 5(50%), 6(60%), 7(70%), 8(80%), 9(90%) or 10(100%) stars depending on their personal perception of the entertainment value of that video. In other words if they yawn the video gets 0% if they laugh it might get 60% or 80% if they laugh rolling on the floor or think you’ve done the grossest thing ever - just as announced in the dare suggestion - you probably get 100%.

After the video has collected at least 10 ratings and at least the same number of ratings as there have been sponsorings to the pot the rating continues for another 7 days before the rating-period is closed and the average is determined.

With the rating the community decides the payout that the darebusters get from their pot. Should the video be extremely entertaining and the according rating is 100% the darebuster gets all the money in the pot. Should the video be rather average and the rating let’s say 65% the darebuster gets 65% of the money in the pot.

The rest of the money - should there be one - remains with darebusters.com and is used to keep the community alive by paying for traffic, programming, back-office administration, to market darebusters.com and hopefully to generate some profit for our company. You do want to see us out here providing the craziest videos ever in the future as well, right? ;-)

The paid-per-rating-principle ensures two things first of all that people have an incentive to upload the most entertaining videos they possibly can and secondly that really cool videos which get many views and with that obviously generate lots of traffic get a maximum pay-out while rather average videos get a lower payout and with this finance the really cool videos.

What is the Jackpot?

All DareDollars from pots of dares that are never busted go into the Jackpot. The Jackpot is paid out monthly to the best-rated video of that month that has received more than the average amount of ratings in that month.

The pay-out is made according to the paid-per-rating principle, so if the video has a 98% average rating 98% of the Jackpot will be paid out to that darebuster.

What are the time limits for dare suggestions?

That depends on the type of the dare suggestion:

A new dare suggestion set for the user himself will normally expire after seven days. However, the first sponsoring by a user will extend the time period by a further six days, the second sponsoring by five days, the third by four days, the fourth by three days, the fifth by two days, the sixth and all further sponsorings by one day each. That sounds complicated we know ;-) So here’s an example: If a user has sponsored a dare on the first day the dare is given a time limit of 13 days (7+6).

A new dare set for someone else or for the community will generally expire after 20 days.

If a dare set for oneself or someone else won’t be busted within the time limit, it will be made public and converted into a community dare. The time limit will then be extended by a further 20 days. Of course, everybody in the community can bust the dare, then.

After a community dare ran out of time it will be closed and will no longer be ready for being busted.

All the DareDollars in the pot of an expired dare go into the jackpot (see: What is the jackpot?)

What are the different ranks on darebusters and how are they determined?

Right now there are 24 different ranks on darebusters.com ranging from newbie to general of darebusters. You advance in rank depending on your activity on darebusters.com. So be active and just find out for yourself! ;-)

Do I have to pay to watch dares?

We do not charge any monthly fee in the sense of a subscription model to use darebusters.com. In fact we will never charge you anything. All sponsorings go directly to the pots of your favorite dares and are absolutely voluntary. However, in order to keep our darebusters motivated and the pots filling up, we encourage all users to sponsor regularly for their favorite new dare suggestions.

You are welcome to check out darebusters.com for the first two weeks without sponsoring anything to any pot and you will be able to see all videos on our site. However, if you think that darebusters.com is a cool community and you want to support our darebusters and continue watching the crazy dares we ask you to sponsor for your favorite new dare suggestion at least once every two weeks.

So if after your first two weeks you haven’t sponsored anything to any currently open pot you won’t be able to continue watching bust-videos. But then again if you haven’t sponsored anything to any pot than there shouldn’t be anything you consider worth watching ;-) Only fair isn’t it?

The same goes for any two week period after that. If you haven’t sponsored in the last two weeks you won’t be able to watch bust-videos. You can always watch all suggestions, and bust-videos of dares that you have sponsored in the past. Again: only fair, right?

Of course you can chose not to sponsor for as long as you like if there is no new dare suggestion that you think is worth it and you can choose to sponsor again whenever you like when a new dare suggestion comes up that you think is cool enough. You will then be able to see all videos again.
